Things to Consider When Choosing an Organic Surface Cleaner

11 October, 2024

Cleaning is an indispensable part of our daily lives, essential for both our health and quality of life. For families with babies, hygiene is even more important. This is because babies' immune systems are not as developed as adults. Therefore, their bodies are sensitive enough to succumb to even the slightest germ or bacteria.

However, every day, new chemicals are being added to most of the cleaning products we use. Chemicals that extend shelf life, those with foaming properties that give a sense of deep cleaning, and many others… When it comes to products that threaten our health and safety, we all start looking for organic and more healthy cleaning products.

One of these products is the surface cleaners we use to make our living spaces healthier. So, do we know what to pay attention to when choosing a surface cleaner, perhaps our most basic cleaning product at home? Let's examine it together!

How to Choose a Surface Cleaner?

Pay Attention to the pH Value!

The term ‘pH value’ is something we have all heard at some point. Even if we don’t know its exact meaning, many of us have come across this term on shampoo bottles or personal care products. So, do we know what this abbreviation exactly represents?

pH values help us distinguish between acids and bases and label them according to their strengths. In other words, it is a measurement unit that indicates the acidic or basic value of a solution.

Solutions range from 0.0 to 14.0 on the pH scale, becoming more acidic as they approach 0 and more basic as they approach 14. A value known as neutral pH, which is 7.0, is considered a low-risk level for our health. Any value above or below this can seriously threaten our skin health and cause various skin disorders.

Therefore, when purchasing a surface cleaner, you should always check the pH value and choose organic products with a neutral pH level.

Does Organic Product Have Synthetic Fragrance?

Everyone wants their home to smell nice after cleaning. That’s why most people prefer products that contain fragrance when buying cleaning supplies. But how right is this?

As long as the fragrance in cosmetic products is not derived from natural oils, it can significantly harm human health. Since scents obtained from natural oils are costly, almost every product we reach for today contains synthetic fragrances produced in a laboratory. These synthetic essences can lead to various skin diseases, especially asthma, and can even harm our immune system.

For this reason, especially families with children should ensure that there are no fragrances in the surface cleaner they purchase for baby health. Otherwise, your crawling baby will inevitably come into direct contact with chemicals.

Be Friendly to Both Health and Family Budget!

Of course, we want to derive maximum benefit from each product we purchase. Since organic surface cleaner is a product we use almost every day, it should not strain our budget economically. Therefore, if you ensure that the product you purchase can be used on wood, tiles, marble, granite, porcelain, plastic, and all other surfaces, you won’t have to allocate a separate budget for each surface. By cleaning your entire home with one product, you significantly contribute to your family budget.
